I am originally from Chardon, Ohio, a small town near Cleveland. I began writing journalistically when I joined the staff of The Hilltop Echo, the student newspaper at Chardon High School. After writing for one year as an editorialist, I served as that publication's associate editor. That experience inspired me to pursue journalism at the collegiate level.

I started attending the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in the fall of 2007. I immediately began working as an editorialist at The Post, the student-run newspaper at my university. I worked as an editorialist for one year and then accepted a columnist position. The following year I began covering campus news for The Post. In March 2009, I joined College Green Magazine, a student-run webzine dedicated to covering environmental news in Southeastern Ohio. I now serve as that publication's news editor.

During the summer of 2009, I worked as an intern at The News-Herald newspaper in Willoughby, Ohio. Working at that publication allowed me to cover a wide range of topics. I attended one of President Barack Obama's town hall meetings, interviewed members of a medieval re-enactment society and hunted ghosts with a band of paranormal investigators.

I hope to cover national politics and environmental news while I am working in Washington. I am grateful for this opportunity and would not be here if not for the generous and ongoing support of my family, friends and colleagues.
