Like any great feature story, a successful career in journalism takes careful planning and commitment, especially in the beginning stages. The Scripps Howard Foundation Wire is my own special way of ensuring that when I get hired for my first job as a professional (wink, wink) I will have not only a valuable experience under my belt, but hopefully also a keener reporter's eye and a more refined sense of writing.
Having just graduated early from the University of Tennessee with a degree in journalism and currently living and working in Washington D.C., everything is fresh and new to me. I see a story at every corner.
My favorite elements of writing are features, so when I see the truth, beauty and pain that envelop the city and her people, an overwhelming desire to tell their stories washes over me. These are stories that put an individual human face to trials and celebrations that affect us all.
I am currently looking for a position in the magazine publishing industry in New York City. Having written and tailored stories for markets ranging from small (LaFollette and Maryville, TN), medium (Knoxville, TN) and now large, I believe I am qualified to serve the average reader, the "every" man and the "every" woman. Writing interests include politics, lifestyles, current events and all of the arts.
