Benjamin Roode - Spring 2003

Currently a junior at Ohio University, Roode has held top positions at his college newspaper, The Post, a daily, student–run, independent newspaper in Athens, Ohio.

His experience on the Campus desk at The Post as well as coordinating it as Campus Staff Editor have led him to acquire a keen knowledge of bureaucracy involved with public education institutions. Roode completed stories covering Ohio’s secondary education debacle, numerous Ohio University Student Senate meetings, issues involving student opinion and basic campus spot news.

Roode hails from St. Marys, Ohio. A small town in Northwest Ohio, St. Marys boasts nothing out of the ordinary.

Roode plans to use the Scripps Howard Semester in Washington program to hone his skills in the area of feature writing as well as delve into the complex political system in Washington.

As a political science minor at OU, Roode says his emphasis in journalism will be with state or national government and possibly international (European) politics. He hopes his short time at Scripps will allow him to improve his writing skills as well as allow him to experience the rich culture and atmosphere of the District.
