VH1 to help build music programs nationwide

NEW YORK_ Music soon will have new meaning in 39 cities.

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation - a non-profit organization that donates musical instruments and money to schools - will give $10 million in instruments and donations to 500 programs by the end of this year, said John Sykes, VH1's president.

Twenty-two target states will receive support, including New Mexico, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio and California. Schools in Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico will receive assistance as well.

Since 1997, the program has generated more than $25 million in total support. Most recently Public School 96 - a New York City elementary school - received $25,000 in instruments and donations.
