U.S. media: Argentina on slippery slope

WASHINGTON__“A dead end”, “a difficult crisis”, “almost the default”, “a contradictory country.” These are some of the phrases reporters working in the U.S., mostly dealing with economical and Latin American issues, use to describe the situation in Argentina.

U.S. media and foreign correspondents in Washington D.C. play an important role in the construction of Argentina's international image. A Mecca of international organisms and world media, the city is home of hundreds of the most influential journalists in the world.

When they have to talk about the financial crisis that has struck the country after more than three years of recession, they agree: Argentina has lost some of its economic and political influence in the rest of the world and in the continent.
