WASHINGTON – Three of the president's recent ambassadorial nominees have spent a total of nearly eight decades in the Foreign Service, but one nominee, a generous Republican Party contributor, has no diplomatic experience.
“Three of our most distinguished diplomats are before us, as well as one of our most esteemed businessmen,” Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., said at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing Wednesday.
Ambassadorial nominee to Germany, William R. Timkin spent most of his career at the helm of Timkin Co., an Ohio-based, Fortune 500 company that makes bearings and other steel components. Timkin is a frequent contributor to Republican candidates and committees.
