WASHINGTON _ Big-eyed people doing battle in bio-mechanized armor. Men who change into women with a splash of cold water. And ninjas who go head to head against demonic forces of darkness.
that's attracting a growing army of American fans, especially on college campuses.
"They tend to have very very stunning visuals," said Alex Aguila, the president of the anime club at University of Texas in Austin. "I think the higher level of quality and standards is making it take off here."
In Japan, all cartoons are called "anime." But in America, anime has come to mean the Japanese cartoons rife with vivid animation, dazzling special effects and often fantastical story lines.
