WASHINGTON - Atkins dieters, beware. Cancer experts say meals containing a high proportion of meat, poultry, fish and dairy foods put Americans at a higher risk for cancer.
A survey conducted by the American Institute for Cancer Research showed that 72 percent of Americans are eating meals that lack enough vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans.
As a result, the institute is encouraging Americans to “reshape” their plates and allow animal products to cover only one-third of their plates. The AICR said that changing the proportions of food on a plate can lower one's risk for cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity or other diseases.
