COINTELPRO spurs probe by activists

It's the hate that hate produced. It's the hate and fear that destroyed progressive Black nationalist and revolutionary movements of the late ‘60s and ‘70s.

The product of then FBI Commissioner J. Edgar Hoover, COINTELPRO (counterintelligence program) was the apex of a fiery presentation with black activists and Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) on Capitol Hill Sept. 14.

“The purpose is to officially notify the community human rights in the United States is as important as human rights is abroad,” said host and coordinator McKinney. “Congress' focus has been outward looking. We are prepared to look deep in America's soul at its human rights record and treatment of minorities and progressive activists and we won't stop until the complete story is told and justice is achieved for the victims and survivors.”
