Clinton calls for attention to health hazards

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for a national system to track chronic diseases and show how environmental issues affect them at one of her first public appearances outside of New York.

Clinton (D-N.Y.) spoke at the National Press Club Luncheon Thursday in Washington, D.C., focusing her remarks on what she called “hidden health hazards” that surround people every day.

Clinton said that during the early part of the century, especially during wartime, America produced chemicals without gauging their effects on the environment.

“We really didn't have time to stop and think about what the impact might be,” she said.
