Iraq war may delay U.S. reaction to Iran nuclear program, experts say

WASHINGTON – The Bush administration's focus on the war in Iraq is likely to mean further delays in dealing with Iran's nuclear weapons program -- and that delay might help, according to Middle East and security experts.

Saying his friends describe U.S. foreign policy as "Iraq around the clock," Patrick Clawson, deputy director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said of Iran's nuclear program, “We cannot stop the program, but we can delay it.”

He and three other experts spoke Monday at a debate sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research.
