WASHINGTON – Representatives of the American Jewish community urged Congress on Wednesday to put pressure on the European Union to combat increasing anti-Semitic acts in Europe.
“We have witnessed in the last three years in particular a surge in anti-Semitism,” said David A. Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee, who testified before the Senate Subcommittee on European Affairs. “Some of its manifestations are eerily familiar; others appear in new guises. But the bottom line is that Jews throughout the world, and notably in Western Europe are experiencing a level of unease not seen in the postwar years.”
