American students need a global perspective, educators say

WASHINGTON - American students need better education on global perspectives, teachers, students and other guests said at a conference held by the Washington International School on Wednesday and Thursday.

The increasing diversity of the United States' population and new technologies call for a change in how children are educated, they said.

The conference, attended by WIS students and educators from area public and private schools, encouraged adults to educate students about responsible global citizenship.

“The most important thing is to really acknowledge that people are individuals, but they are also cultural factors and demographic factors,” said Rohini Anand, senior vice-president and chief diversity officer of Sodexho, a food services and management company. “They all bring very valuable experiences to the schools.“
